Vatican Hill ran out the easy winner at Thirsk at a big price of 11 to 1. Wearing cheek pieces for the first time the Canford Cliffs colt was held up towards the rear on the inside rail by jockey Adam McNamara. They angled out for a run on the turn for home and took up the lead a furlong out. They pulled clear of the rest of the field and went on to win by three-and-a-half-lengths. A great first win for Vatican Hill and another for the Merchants and Missionaries syndicate.
