Owner Dr Marwan Koukash had to be patient in the early part of the season with many of his horses running well but not winning, well that has all changed this month with 8 winners and 12 placed horses. Saturday got off to a great start for the Salford City owner when Growl won impressively at Windsor. He loved the very soft ground and was held up towards the rear by jockey David Nolan. They were always travelling well and they made headway over the final two furlongs. Once they had the lead they pulled clear to win by two lengths. That’s Growl’s second win in a row.
Dave Nolan then partnered Gabrial to listed success in the feature on the card. Gabrial deserved a win and was held up behind the leaders ready for a late challenge. He did hang left in the final furlong to grab the far rail but stayed on strongly to win by half-a-length. Gabrial may not have won in 17 starts but during that time he has finished third in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. The seven-year-old has now earnt over six hundred thousand pounds in prize money, he’s a star!
Marwan’s other winner came at his favourite course Chester. Powerallied isn’t a very big horse but he’s got a big heart and he put in an impressive performance to win the Class 3 Handicap. Jockey Franny Norton tracked the leaders and had to switch right inside the final furlong to get a run. When they did Powerallied stretched clear to win by two-and-a-quarter-lengths. Lexi’s Hero also put in a great display to finish third.
