It was a great day for two of our two-year-olds with both of them turning over odds on favourites. Ventura Rebel won on his debut at Thirsk but was sent off a 20 to 1 shot for the Ascot trial, the American filly Lady Pauline was the 4 to 11 favourite. She made the running and Ventura Rebel struggled to lay up early in the race. He was pushed for an effort over the final two furlongs by jockey Paul Hanagan and he made rapid headway approaching the wining post. He got up to win by a length for Middleham Park Racing and he now looks destined for Royal Ascot.

Just ten minutes later Kidda picked up his first win at Pontefract. He made all under Tony Hamilton and stayed on well under pressure from the favourite over the final furlong. He held on to win by a neck for owners Nick Bradley Racing.

We’re having a purple patch for Middleham Park Racing with three winners in 8 days. All three names have started with Ventura and this time it was Ventura Rebel on his racecourse debut. The Pastoral Pursuits-colt sat towards the rear under Paul Hanagan and started to challenge over the final two furlongs. He didn’t have the easiest of passages through the field and showed a good attitude to dig deep and get up and win by three-quarters-of-a-length. Ventura Rebel was our 100th winner at Thirsk.
