Donjuan Triumphant ran a blinder to finish second in the Prix Maurice De Gheest at Deauville. He took a long time to come back into himself after the winter and although he ran a great race at Haydock on debut this season the run at Royal Ascot was probably just a bit too much for him. He loves soft ground and although we would have liked it to be softer at Deauville the conditions didn’t hinder him. He was ridden by jockey Alexis Badel who’s won on him before and they sat in mid division tracking the pace. They made a move to challenge over the last couple of furlongs and Donjuan showed a brilliant attitude to chase down the leader. Signs Of Blessing wasn’t for catching though after he had made all of the running. We were delighted to finish second in a group one and you would have to think he could go one better next time.
