It’s been a good week for apprentice Connor Murtagh, not only did he pass his driving test but he rode his first double at Chester. The first winner came on The Wagon Wheel. She was held up in mid-division and started to make headway three furlongs from home. She did hang right approaching the final furlong and ended up on the stand side rail but showed her class and went clear. She won by a comfortable three lengths.

Connor then gave Boundsy a perfectly timed ride to get him up on the line. He started to challenge over the final furlong after chasing the leaders and battled to get up and win by a neck. He’s been placed on his last two starts so it was great to see him get his head in front for owner Kevin Mercer.

Apprentice jockey Connor Murtagh secured his first win on his first ride when riding for his dad earlier this month but yesterday he notched up his first winner for us on Lady Turpin. The four-year-old was only on her second start back after a break of over two hundred days and she ran a strong race. She was always prominent and on the turn for home she started to make her move. She took up the lead over two furlongs out and she pulled clear to win by two-and-a-quarter-lengths for owners The UK Racing Syndicate.
