Sammy Jo Bell won the Leger Legends race two years after retiring from the saddle. Sammy was riding Dubai Acclaim and faced stiff competition from the likes of Noel Fehily and Kieren Fallon. She was happy to sit towards the rear of the field as a fast pace was set. Dubai Acclaim was always travelling strongly and he hit the front before the furlong marker. He stayed on well and fended off the late challenge of Hammer Gun and Noel Fehily to win by a short head. Owners Steve and Glen were delighted that Sammy rode then another winner and although Sammy loved the buzz she’s not temped to come back full time.

Earlier on the card Bravo Faisal won the nursery. That’s the second win of his career and he’s still a big raw horse and there’s plenty to come. He was held up in the race by Paul Hanagan and was asked to challenge a furlong out. He was still green and wandered around but kept on well towards the finish to win by half-a-length.

Bravo Faisal picked up the first win of his career at Newcastle. The Kodiac-colt tracked the leader under Paul Hanagan. He disputed the lead a furlong out and kept on well towards the finish to get up and win by a nose. A great result for owner Sheikh Abdullah Almalek Alsabah.
