Brian The Snail was anything but at Pontefract as he won on debut. The Zebedee colt was given a great introduction to racing under jockey Tony Hamilton. He tracked the leaders and started to make an impression over the final furlong. He learnt as he raced and when he hit the front he stayed on powerfully to win by a length – Tony struggled to pull him up after the line. He’s part owned by Robin and his cousin Bobby and the great name was picked by Bobby’s wife Sheila.

We had a great start to the Ayr Western meeting with Balance winning the Ayrshire Hospice Handicap. She was held up in mid-division by jockey Adam McNamara. She was always travelling well and started to make a move two furlongs from home. She took up the lead inside the final furlong and stayed on to win by one-and-a-quarter-lengths for owner Andrew Tinkler. She’s been placed on two of her three starts this season so it was great for her to get her head in front.
