Assistant Trainer - Robin O’Ryan

Rob joined us as Assistant Trainer in December 2005 and we have never looked back. To say he is an invaluable member of the team would be an understatement! Rob takes over the reins in Richards’s absence and is a familiar face at both the races and the bloodstock sales.

Pupil Assistant Trainer – Jess McLernon

Jess joined the team in May 2011 and in a very short time became Monty’s assistant, helping administer medications and make up special feeds. In March 2013 Jess was promoted to Pupil Assistant and, with a good working relationship already in place with Rob (O'Ryan), will assist in the yard as well as continuing to ride out. She will be a familiar face at the races this season too. A more than competent rider; she holds an amateur-riders license and has enjoyed a number of rides in Point-to-Point’s in her native Ireland in addition to a couple of rides on the flat here in England last season. Dedicated, reliable and enthusiastic, Jess is a valuable member of the team.

Monty

Monty is quite simply brilliant! He has been part of the team since September 2006 and his experience and input is invaluable. Monty does medications, prepares special feeds and works with the yearlings during the very early stages of breaking. He has an ‘eye for a good’un and has an uncanny knack of pinpointing the best 2yo for the forthcoming season within the first 10 minutes in the lunge ring!

Barn Managers - Con Foley, Cheryl Mitchell, John Carr & Aly Deniel

Cheryl and Con have been with us since 2006 and 2007 respectively and know the running of Musley Bank inside out. Aly has been with us since January 2010 while John joined the team in August 2011 bringing with him experience you cannot buy!

Together they ensure nothing gets missed during ‘evening stables’. The smooth running of ‘evening stables’ is just as important as morning training as this is when legs are checked and medications ministered.

Travelling Team - Graham Steel, Craig Lidster, Alyson Deniel & Jarek Stadnik

Graham is our senior travelling head-lad and has been with us since November 2003. His role also includes working closely with Mandy in the office organising transport, ensuring we have the correct colours and keeping up-to-date with sponsorship.

Once the horses leave Musley Bank Stables the travelling team are responsible for their welfare and we are lucky we have a cracking team in place here. It is of the utmost importance that we have members of staff familiar with our horses travelling with them ensuring a comfortable journey with minimal stress; subsequently anything amiss will be immediately apparent.

Farriers - Mike Clarke & Ben Green

We have two very good Farriers with the patience and skill required for working with thoroughbreds which is vital with the number of horses here at Musley Bank Stables. With our own onsite forge we like to think our hoof management is second to none.

Office - Mandy Corner

Mandy is our full time secretary and has been with us since 2004. She does an amazing job keeping everything organized and she has multi-tasking down to a tee! Mandy is most likely the friendly voice on the end of the phone when you call.

Office - Katie Cooper

Katie joined us in May 2012. A competent rider, who won the prestigious Queen Mother's Cup at York in 2009 on Mull Of Dubai, she also has experience in a racing office and after riding out two or three lots Katie works full time alongside Mandy in the office.

Website & Photography - Sal Smithson

Sal joined us in January 2011 when she took over the management of our website. Following a complete revamp Sal now updates the website on a daily basis, with the day’s runners, results, latest news and features in addition to taking photos from the yard and the races which are added frequently to our extensive Gallery.

Training racehorses requires a dedicated and experienced team and we are very lucky to have just that here at Musley Bank Stables.
